Oxbridges
The Rutland Foundation’s ethos is rooted in a belief that access to Oxford and Cambridge Universities has the power to transform individuals and exponentially enrich the human capital of the United Kingdom. The recent global impact of Oxford’s AstraZeneca vaccine is testament to the world changing potential of this unique education and academic environment.
At the Rutland Foundation we believe passionately in the transformative power of great teachers. The encouragement they can give to their brightest pupils year-on-year, throughout their secondary school careers, can elevate aspirations and unlock unforeseen Oxbridge opportunities.
Our role in the broader access discussion is focussed on the most exceptional teachers, both supporting their existing endeavours and opening up support networks for pupils who do not have immediate access to one of these inspiring individuals.
Our yearly focus is to find the best ways to engage and encourage teachers already making a difference and how to give even more talented pupils access to this same support. Our first Foundation symposium was held in Oxford in December 2022. Out of this we highlighted several existing programs to provide support and funding to, including the “Solihull, Coventry and Birmingham Oxbridge Network”. We are seeking to broaden this support to other projects creating similar value and outcomes.
We are also commissioning a unique nationwide central resource on Oxbridge access schemes, which will be shared with interested parties in the field when published, and available via this website. Great public and private support schemes for access already exist, and we hope to create a resource to enable school pupils to discover easily the full scope of opportunities available to them.
